What's happening at Terminal 5
Terminal 5 is the new home for JetBlue and Spirit, as well some American Airlines flights and the bus to the American Eagle terminal. A recently completed $229 million modernization included 19 great dining and shopping options, an expanded ticketing lobby, more security screening checkpoints, and new baggage carousels.

- Allow plenty of time to get to Terminal 5 and for pick-up and drop-offs. LAX is undergoing a multi-billion-dollar modernization, which can cause related traffic congestion and delays throughout the day. Our advice? Come early, come hungry and relax before your flight.

How many gates are in Terminal 5 LAX? ›
Terminal 5 has 17 gates: Gates 50, 51A, 51B, 53A, 53B, 54A, 54B, 55A, 55B, 51A–51D, 57–59 and a bus gate. Gates 52A–52I are located at the Regional Terminal. As of March 2024, the terminal serves as a hub for American Airlines along with Terminal 4 and Eagle's Nest. The terminal is also used by Spirit Airlines.

It takes about 5 minutes to walk between each terminal, but there are caveats. If you land in Terminals 1, 2, or 3 and have to get to any other terminal in LAX, you can now walk via above-ground walkways or you can exit security, take a shuttle to your connecting terminal, and re-clear security.
